InterCash Bureau de Change Ltd moved into the Travel Centre and opened for business there on the first day the building was opened to the public, just before Easter, 1994.

This was less than one year after the company was founded, but its reputation for fair pricing and customer service meant that it was welcomed into the Ferry Port with open arms - and it hasn't disappointed people since..

Over the years that have followed, InterCash has built up a tremendous and loyal following among the regular travelers, most of whom realise that it's better to wait until they reach Portsmouth to change their sterling for currency - something that cannot usually be said of similar operations in other ferry ports and airports!

Our branch here at the Ferry Port opens very early in the morning, usually around 5.30am, although it's earlier still in the main season, when the fast-cat service is in full operation.

All our staff are local people - one lives little more than a hundred meteres away! - and have now been with the company for many years, which means they not only know what they're doing, they also know a very large proportion of their customers, who travel out via Portsmouth regularly.

We always stock a good level of Euro notes - and we also usually have a reasonable supply of larger Euro coins - and we also carry some stocks of other currencies, especially US dollars, but we can always supply just about anything, given a day or so's advance notice by telephone.

During the week, there is a central Customer Services number for advance orders, but there is also a direct weekend number.

The main Customer Services number is manned during normal "office" hours, but we also offer an "out of hours" ordering service for people wishing to use our Ferry Port branch here, even if they are not actually traveling out on one of the ferries.

This means that you can obtain currency - and sell currency back for sterling - during a period of 18 hours, seven days a week, but you should always phone first if (a) you want currencies other than Euros, or (b) you are wanting to buy or sell a large amount, especially if it is over £5,000 sterling value.

Please remember, for transactions over £5,000, you must produce either your passport or photo driving licence, and another form of identification, such as a household utility bill less than three months old, to comply with UK anti-money laundering laws.
